iDock C10 vs KD-E10

Hello, I’m looking for a KVM Switch and stumbled upon two of your products: iDock C10 and KD-E10.

Here’s a brief summary of my setup:

  • Devices: Desktop and either of my two laptops. Note: I don’t need to connect both laptops at the same time
  • Laptops: Macbook Pro M4 14 inch (charger 70W) and Lenovo T16 Gen1 (charger 135W).
  • Monitors: Support up to 2 monitors (HDMI or Display Port).
  • Ports: At least 4 USB-A and optionally 1 USB-C port.
  • Power Delivery: Optionally I’d like to have the possibility of having just one USB-C cable to plug into my laptop to be able to charge it, but it’s acceptable to have 1 USB-C for data and another for charging.

Is it correct to assume that the two products I mentioned above are the only ones available for my kind of setup?
If so, given the specifications of it, which one should I go for?

Thanks in advance

Hi, there.

You’re right. iDock C10 or KD-E10 is the best pick for your use case. You can easily connect your devices with any of them.

Here are some differences between iDock C10 and KD-E10. You can decide which one you prefer:

  1. iDock C10 has a built-in battery to charge your laptop (60W); for KD-E10 you need to plug in a power adapter (up to 100W).
  2. iDock C10 is more stylish; KD-E10 goes with our old design at a lower cost.
  3. iDock C10 has a Toslink Out port and KD-E10 does not have.

Just be aware that Mac does not support MST so you will get duplicates on two external screens.

Hello,

Thanks for you reply, @Cecilia <3

Yes, exactly, those were my thoughts as these two products felt like they would fit into my setup/requirements.

Going through your comments:

iDock C10 has a built-in battery to charge your laptop (60W); for KD-E10 you need to plug in a power adapter (up to 100W).

While I would have two USB-C cables (one for PD and another one for data), I kind of see this as an advantage, because if I look into my laptops chargers, I have a 135W for the Lenovo and 70W for the Macbook Pro.
To be honest I don’t do really intense work on the Macbook Pro and so the 60W that the iDock C10 provides wouldn’t be a problem, but I’m afraid because I code on the Lenovo that this dock would be short in terms of power (bear in mind that probably 50% of the time the laptop is just doing web-browsing, so I’m a bit blind if at the end of a working session, the 60W would be sufficient for that laptop?)

iDock C10 is more stylish; KD-E10 goes with our old design at a lower cost.

I don’t mind the old design, the new one looks better of course but at the current prices, it comes at a cost of more than 100€, which is a lot :frowning:

iDock C10 has a Toslink Out port and KD-E10 does not have.

To be honest, I don’t really have a use for this port.

I do however have a couple of questions:

  1. In terms of overall features that both docks support, they offer the same, correct? Just asking this as I see a big price difference between them and I don’t want to end up ordering the wrong product.
  2. How long does the docks typically take to be delivered?
  3. In the case that I want to return them (I’ve seen that you have a 30 day no-questions-asked policy, correct?), how does the customer usually have to handle that? Do I need to book a courier and pay for it? Should I keep the original delivery box?

Thanks for your help so far

P.S:

Just be aware that Mac does not support MST so you will get duplicates on two external screens.

Yes, this is fine, I read about this macOS limitation, nothing you guys can do, it’s more Apple to be blamed  Quick question though, if I close the lid my Macbook Pro M4, would I then be able to output to two different screens, in extended mode?

  1. About the delivery time, the product would be shipped out within 2 busisess days after the order placed for those in stock products.
  2. We have the oversea warehouses, such as USA, Canada,UK,Germany, etc.
  3. About the return, yes and you can submit the RMA form and our customer service will help follow up with you.

Perfect, thanks for your help @Kevin .

The only thing I need now is if you can address the other questions I had in my previous post, then I can either order the iDock C10 or KD-E10

Hi, sorry and you mean the power charging problem, right?
Due to the lenovo laptop required 135W ad if connect to iDock C10 and the PD function would not work.
So recommend to use our KD-E10 and you just need the laptop USB-C power supply plug in to our KD-E10(the charging port) and then it can supply up to 100W power charging for the laptop over the single USB-C cable connection.
Both iDock C10 and KD-E10 came support 1 laptop 1 desktop with 2 HDMI monitors, just have the differences Cecilia mentioned above.

Hello again @Kevin ,

(…) you mean the power charging problem, right?

I meant the power charging and the 105€ difference between both products. Why is the difference so huge?

  • Is it because of the Toslink Out port?
  • Premium building materials on the iDock C20?
  • The fact that I don’t need to use my laptop charger to connect to the dock and then be able to charge it through the USB-C cable from the dock?

To explain better, I don’t mind paying the iDock C10 price, I just want to justify the huge price difference between both docks

Could you explain in more detail what do you mean by this:

Due to the lenovo laptop required 135W ad if connect to iDock C10 and the PD function would not work.

I thought that whatever laptop I would connect (as long as it would support USB-C with PowerDelivery) to the iDock C10 then the dock would be able to supply the 60W.

Do you mean because of my specific laptop (Lenovo T16 Gen1) that it can’t do that? What about my other laptop (Macbook Pro M4 14 inch)?

Thanks

Hello again,

Tagging @Kevin and @Cecilia (or other moderator/expert), that can help me sort out the last bits of questions I had, so that I can order the correct dock

Thanks in advance!

Hi,
Normally,if the laptop came required a higher power and the supply offer a too low power then the system would be bypass the power automatically so when you use the iDock C10, it would not charging for the Lenovo T16 Gen1 thru the USB-C connection,in this case we recommend you purchased our KD-E10 and the laptop power supply connect to KD-E10 and it can work for the laptop over the single USB-C connection.

Hello,

Thanks for the clarification @Kevin

Is it then possible to use the Lenovo charger (135W), connect it to the KD-E10 and use it for both laptops (Lenovo and Macbook Pro)?

If you can address the other question as well, I bet most of us customers are facing the same decision when trying to decide what’s the best dock for their use case in terms of features and price.

Kind regards

P.S. - Also, I can see that you launched some discounts on your US page, are they coming to the EU as well?

Hi ,

Yes,that is work.

They came with same work function mostly, just have the difference Cecilia told you. By the way,the KD-E10 came with an iron house and C10 with aluminum shell and also with different design craftsmanship.
