Hello…
Wow so I’ve been through the mill deciphering the mirroring issue everyone has faced with the iDock C20 and come up with a somewhat clunky solution but it kinda works.
First up the unit is great, connection to the computers is fine, (I have a 2019 mac book pro and HP notebook) internet comes in through the LAN/ethernet input and all the USB connections work great. Nothing dropping out and/or glitchy and painless switch between mac and PC. So far so good… (apart from the blessed mirroring on the MAC – arrgh!)
I had a KVM switch from Tesmart (single HDMI output) and this unit from AV Access is superior.
Ok so for the fix:
*Setup all leads and connections per the instructions except for the HDMI outputs of the C20 unit, leave those unplugged. (FYI, PC plugged into USB-C 1, Mac is plugged into USB-C 2)
*For the Mac I bought a USB-C to Hub with an HDMI output - I bought a VAVA VA-UC017 one for this as it has an DC power input to power the Mac as you’ll use one port for the USB-C to C20 and other USB-C port to the hub.
*Buy a HDMI Splitter, two in, one out. (I bought Comsol brand, only $35 at Officeworks in Australia)
*On the C20 attach one HDMI output 2 to one screen and HDMI output 1 to input 1 of the HDMI splitter.
*Attach HDMI out of MAC Hub to input 2 of the HDMI splitter.
*Attach single output of the splitter to the second screen
*Ok now cross your fingers and power everything up…
Ok moment of truth, I select Laptop 1 on the C20 unit + Select 1 on the splitter and PC is good as gold - works perfectly, continuity across both screens.
Switch to laptop 2 on the C20 for the MAC and splitter to input 2 and Mac fires up - no issues! I’ve two screens and they work seamlessly, no mirroring (granted there was a little bit of fluffing around with HDMI leads to get screens positioned but no biggie)
Great outcome, although I need to press two switch buttons to connect to each computer, I’ve overcome the USB-C MST issue with the MAC and very happy.
The AV C20 is very stable so far and behaves like it should…
Many thanks and good luck!
