I recently hooked up the 4KMX44-H2 and would like to control it via rs-232, however, most commands to not go through and get no response. I have to repeat the command 10-15 times just to get it to work 80-90% of the time. When I connect through telnet, I have no problem issuing commands or getting responses.
Is there any firmware updates for this device?

Your device has came with the newest firmware.
Could you try use our this Serial tool : UartAssist which work with windows PC.
I’m not looking to control it from a windows pc. I have other switches that I control without any issues using an esp32 with an rs-232 adapter. The problem is not that the commands don’t work, they just work intermittently. Sometimes it will work sending the command once, other times I have to keep repeating the command to get a response.
Which type RS232 adapter you used,have you tried change another one for a test?
It is the M5-Atom RS232. I have successfully used it with both Orei and Avico matrix switches.
