4KSP12-S does not split 4k UHD signal to two devices

My company has bought 32 of these 4KSP12-S 4k hdmi splitters on my say-so, so you will understand if I am not best pleased that it does not seem to work as advertised.

I am using each 4KSP12-S to split the output of a 2160p set-top-box (UK) - one output going to a Blackmagic Decklink Quad HDMI capture card (so 4k), the other downscaled to a Kramer VM-16 (or sometimes I just want to use the splitter to split the STB signal to two 4k inputs of the capture card). This works fine with a 1080p signal from the STB, but not with a 2160p signal. With 2160p the 1st output of the splitter always works no problem, but the 2nd output of the splitter (that is supposed to go to the Kramer) is just black, or no signal.

I notice I’m not the only person to report this, I see now some of the reviews on Amazon also reported it, eg - Splitter [4KSP12-S] fails to work as described with a Virgin V6 box

I’m fairly sure it did work when I first bought one to test (before purchasing 32 of them), but now it is definitely not working.

Are there any firmware patches that address this issue, or is there someone I can get to look into it?

Hi Rinaldo,

Thanks for getting back to us and wea re truly sorry for the issues.
What is the series number(A2*****) for the first one you purchased and are those new 32 pcs came with the same first 4 characters(e.g. A24D****) on the serial number with that one?
Are all those splitters have same setup with the first one you testing?
If not and how about try test with the same setup(with the same equipment) for a check?

Hi, thanks for your response. My initial test splitter S/N was A24D0239. This doesn’t seem to downscale either. But I was reading the manual again about how the downscale keeps the same refresh rate, so I need to check whether the kramer supports 1080p50 (downscaled from 2160p50).

The other splitters are mounted onto the racks which means you can’t get at the serial sticker on the bottom. If necessary I will unbolt one, but I will do a few more checks first.

Can I ask about these splitters? Are they capable of generating an EDID of their own for the input STB, or can they only copy the EDID of the output devices attached? My main area of concern will be if I have any issues when bringing a STB out of standby.
