Hi, I’ve just received and unpacked my KD-E20 and the wired LAN speed is really slow.
I have wired ethernet (cat 6a). When this is plugged into my laptop with a USB-C to ethernet converter, I get around 950mbs (my service speed is 1gbps).
I have moved the ethernet cable to the KD-E20 and my speed tests are now only reaching around 350mbs.
I have swapped back and retested and I always get around 950mbps on my USB-C to Ethernet convertor and only around 350mbps through the switch. The speed issue is only on the KD-E20. The specs say that the LAN port supports 1gbps. Does anyone know why the ethernet speed through the KD-E20 switch is so slow and how I solve this?
This actually looks related to another issue. After some time being connected, the switch goes into a ‘USB device not recognised’ state. In Device Manager, the USB device displays as ‘Unknown USB Device (Port Reset Failed)’.
If I do the speed test before the switch/USB device goes into this failed state, the speed is as expected, but when I do the speed test when the USB device is in the failed state, the speed is greatly reduced. I guess I’ll open a ticket about the USB device not being recognised!
Going to laptop Device Manager > Network Adapter > Realtek USB GbE Family Control Enter its Properties > Advanced, and try configure the “Speed & Duplex” with “1.0 Gbps Full Duplex” for a check.
Thanks for the suggestion, but the issue is now solved with the help of Johnny on the support desk.
When the switch was connected to my main laptop (HP Z-Book), in Device Manager, you can see the ‘Generic Superspeed USB Hub’ devices under ‘Universal Serial Bus Controllers’. The network speed was as expected (900+mbps).
But after a short time, I would get a ‘USB device failed’ notification and in Device Manager, the USB device would show as 'Unknown USB Device (Port Reset Failed).
(Sorry - I’m restricted to embedding only 1 image per post so before and after pictures in the same image)
Once this error had occurred, you can see that the ‘Generic Superspeed USB Hub’ devices are no longer listed under USB Controllers. The network speed also reduced to just over 300mbps.
It looks like the network speed is affected by the recognition of the ‘Superspeed Hub’.
To reset the error, I would have to uninstall the USB device in Device Manager and reboot my laptop. Nothing else seemed to solve or reset the error.
I then tested the switch with another laptop (Asus). The device remained stable and I did not see the error on this laptop, so it seemed to be a compatibility error with the HP laptop.
Johnny suggested upgrading the firmware on the switch. The switch was running firmware v.1.0.2 and I upgraded to v.1.0.3. Once upgraded, the switch has connected to my HP laptop and has remained stable. I have not seen the error recur, so it looks like the firmware update has solved the issue.
Excellent support from Johnny, and I’ll create a KB article in case others see this error. Thanks for your help suggestions too!
