Problem with active extension cable and 8KSW21-KVM

Hello

I have purchased an 8KSW21-KVM to connect it to two PCs.

PC 1 - KVM

Connection with the supplied cables. Everything works perfectly, including the monitor, mouse, and keyboard connected to the KVM.

PC 2 - KVM

In this case, the PC is in another room, so I used longer cables.

Sniokco HDMI 2.1 8K 20M Cable works perfectly, displaying the screen and switching between the inputs using the HDMI Input Select.

The problem lies with the USB connection, as “I can’t use the mouse and keyboard to control PC 2.”

Here’s the setup I’m using:

PC 2 + DIGITUS Active USB 3.0 Extension Cable, 20m + USB 3.0 Type-B to Type-A Cable + KVM.

It’s an active cable, so it should work. What could be the issue?

It’s usually recommended to connect the original cable to the PC and then to the extender, but in this case, it’s impossible because the cable connecting to the KVM is Type-B.

I connected a USB Switch to the DIGITUS, and it works perfectly, allowing me to control PC 2. However, this solution forces me to use two mice and two keyboards, which defeats much of the purpose of the KVM.

After purchasing the cable and setting it up, I noticed there are other options to extend USB. But since I’ve already made this investment, I’d like to know if there’s a solution.

Thanks!

Hello Rullbit,
Thanks for reaching us and wea re so sorry for the issue.
It may caused by the following issues:

  1. Our KVM incompatible with the DIGITUS Active USB 3.0 Extension Cable.
  2. The USB extension cable(plus the provided USB-A to USB-b CABLE) is too long when connect to our KVM
  3. Recommend to try use the USB extender for a check,we have the USB 3.0 extender and USB 2.0 extender
